Gyeongbuk Province to Urgently Install 100 Modular Homes for Wildfire Victims
Gyeongbuk Province is mobilizing all available resources to provide emergency housing support for residents who lost their homes to the massive wildfire that broke out in Uiseong on the 22nd and rapidly spread to neighboring Andong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang, and Yeongdeok.
To facilitate a swift return to normalcy for the displaced residents, the province is collaborating with local municipalities to secure transportation equipment and installation sites across four heavily damaged villages starting this weekend. Gyeongbuk plans to supply 100 modular housing units and relocate 26 temporary prefabricated houses currently held by disaster relief associations. Priority for move-in will be given to residents who are most vulnerable to safety and hygiene risks.
Emergency Housing Features and Disaster Status
The modular housing units being supplied are approximately 10 pyeong (3.4 × 11.2m) in size. Each unit is designed to be fully functional for daily life without inconvenience, featuring a private bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen, as well as air conditioning and underfloor heating systems.
As of the 30th, investigations revealed that 3,308 houses have been damaged and more than 3,000 residents have been displaced across five "Special Disaster Zones" in Gyeongbuk Province. These displaced persons are currently taking refuge in nearby community centers, senior centers, schools, and gymnasiums.
The province plans to complete its demand survey for temporary prefabricated housing by the weekend (with 1,688 households tallied as of the 30th). The goal is to provide a safe and comfortable haven for residents to stay until their damaged homes are fully restored.
Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheol-woo emphasized, "We will exert all our efforts—including personnel, equipment, and budget support—in cooperation with the affected municipalities to soothe the sense of loss among our citizens and ensure a swift return to normalcy." He added, "Beyond establishing an advanced response system to prevent the recurrence of wildfires, we will honor the history and sacrifices made during this disaster while designing a roadmap for regional revitalization and reconstruction."
